Event Review: King of Cordele w/ Footage!

It was held in Cordele, Georgia and consisted of a top 8 competition to give the crown for the "King of Cordele." Watermelon Speedway in Cordele is as awesome as it is tiresome. Let me put it this way, drifting is like your favorite soda. And Cordele is like a roach infested refrigerator. Sure, you can get the soda somewhere else, and it might be cleaner, but its probably gonna cost more, and guess what... THAT SODA is RIGHT THERE. You might have to flick off a couple bugs, but sometimes you just gotta have that purple stuff.

"Did someone say purple schtuff? I'm gonna get wrecking-balled like Miley!" - Mom

Anyways, the track has built a reputation for housing the rookies of the Georgia drift scene. Some say in one hand, its a great cheap spot for beginners to shred all of their economy tires until they blow, but it doesn't have the space to really push a driver to be better. I can somewhat agree to that, I mean I always tell the folks running events that have a slow or boring course to pep it up some. Seriously though, if you treat drivers like a bitch, they'll drive like a bitch. Quote that.

"if you treat drivers like a bitch, they'll drive like a bitch. Quote that."

-J.J. Alfano

So what better way to end this internet yawn fest than to host a seriously competitive event on a seriously competitive course, marked out on what is allegedly the cold sore of Georgia drifting. I'm down. I mean hell, if nothing cool happens, I know I can scrounge up at least a few laps in some sucker's generous people's drift cars.

Being the obnoxious person I am, I volunteered and set out down to the event to lend my services in the form of judging others. Its really enjoyable actually. Being able to tell people they suck without ever having to back my theory up. Haha, and they just take it. Too easy.

I get there and what do ya know, I'm late. So I go say hello to my favorite people, introduce myself to Mr. Kurtis Hall who took the obligation to run this hot mess, and we make small talk and kind of work things out as we go. Once we get to the driver's meeting, I explain in detail practically the entire Formula D rulebook and make really nerdy references to really nerdy drift battles in events past. It was obvious I was alone in my super-infatuation with American drift drama, so I left it alone.

With only 8 competitors the qualifying went very smooth and we had our brackets made. Shortly after, with as minimal issues as we tried to have (hint: Walkie Talkies are worth the investment) we finished the event with a winner, and everyone was happy... ish. And yes, this is exactly how I'm copping out of actually going in to detail about the event, because I'm tired. Watch the damn video.

Anyways, congrats to the top 3 finishers: Taylor Hull in first, Emmett Ashe in 2nd, and Blake Floyd in 3rd. Congratulations guys! You helped prove that with the right brains behind the operation you can polish all kinds of turds!

Here is the winner, Taylor Hull. Please forgive the Mustang wheels, he doesn't' know any better.

Ok, so without further ado, here is the junk pile I call a video:
Forgive the Windows Movie Maker editing, I was bored on my the way to Florida and didnt have my laptop with Adobe stuffs on it! Anyways, the measly 1080p video from my Drift Innovation camera barely deserves any more than that. (Can you believe 1080p 30fps is crap now?)

LS BRO: Shane Whalley and Ice 9 Group! BONUS: The Neighbourhood.

I can always appreciate a good LS drifter. Especially one who is only #3 in the states to really use a big body GTO competitively. I also really really like The Neighbourhood too so this vid is totally worth me posting on the site. I definitely need to hit up a Midwest Drift Union event very very soon!

Good News from S2 Drift Events!

Quote:
"We learned something this year. If you want something done right, do it yourself. S 2 will return in 2014 with proper events at proper venues. Negotiations are underway with several of the tracks and larger lots in Georgia.

We will be working around the Streetwise Drift and east 10 drift schedules so there are no conflicting dates for events.

The cost of running events have gone up somewhat due to Insurance companies covering their butts and a poor economy affecting the race crowds. With this in mind we need your help. We are looking for sponsors for the season. I already have a commitment from GTE and I have been in touch with Enjukuracing and Competition Clutch and have their interest.

Shop owners! If we have a place to drift, people have a reason to build cars. $$$$ back in your pocket. If they drift they break things on their cars, $$$ back in your pocket. People see us having fun and you supporting them, $$$ back in your pocket.

Non shops, people with businesses, Help us out and in return you get plenty of exposure here on FB, in the pictures people share and at the events with booth space, promotions etc.

2014 will see roughly 10 to 12 events at these possible venues:

AMS - Atlanta Motor Speedway. 3 to 4 events
a possible grip day on the full road course including the 1.5
mile oval.
the usual Road Course and Media Lot for the drift days

Gresham - Beginners and advanced entries into the "Bowl"
Always exciting and a beautiful track

Lanier - Apocalypse Drift (yes it has been closed but will open for us)
A low banked wide oval track for intermediate to advanced
drivers. Low cost venue but a lot of fun.

South Georgia Motorsports Park
ONLY if they will let us use the entire 1/2" mile lot.

Cumming Fairgrounds (smaller but local and low cost )
Haven't got far in negotiations yet but it's a possibility.

Atlanta Dragway - Commerce
They have a huge lot, bigger than Turner. Hoping to do
several events there.

The Super Secret OMG location I'd have to kill you if I told you location. - (________________________________). Told you, it's a secret!

The year will culminate with a final drift Demo by invitation at the NOPI Nationals 2014 for our top drivers. Free to the invitees.

During the year S 2 will bring it's show to a lot of charity events where we will raise money and donate it in the name of our sponsors and drivers. One in particular is the Atlanta Cops and Rodders show put on for the benefit of the Special Olympics of Georgia. This will bring more recognition to our sponsors while helping some good causes.

Want to help? We are looking for sponsors and track volunteers.

Contact Howard by e mail howards240@charter.net or FB post or PM.

Thanks - Howard Smith"

I Have a Dream

Today is the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.'s famous "I Have a Dream" speech. In celebration of that, I would like to note that I have my own dream.

I have a dream that my friends can live in a nation where they will not be judged by the displacement of their engines, but by the horsepower on which they put to the wheels.

I have a dream that one day, all speed bumps will be exalted, every hill and every mountain shall be driveable, the rough places will be made plane, and the straight places will be made curvy.

But not only that, but let engines rev from the lots of Georgia, let engines rev from the mountains of Japan, let engines rev from every hill and molehill from California, from every mountain side. Let engines rev...

When we allow engines to rev - when we allow them to rev from every garage and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of motorsport's children, drifters and grip drivers, v8s and 4 cylinders, will be able to join hands in the old racing spiritual, "Drive at last, drive at last, thank God a-mighty, we can drive at last."

Way Rad Wednesday: 4 door? Check. 4 rotor? Check. Turbo? Check. Nitrous? CHECK.

I call this the anti-car, because it just dont make no sense.

Not a Drift Car, but Still EARGASMIC.

Yeah, so not so much drifting as it is awesome. Ferrari F40, the Supercar of the late 80s, and early 90s. Twin turbo v8 and no creature comforts. Just watch as the driver gets rattled to hell in that stiff all carbon chassis. And don't forget... SPEAKERS UP!

Formula D and Streetwise Drift Pro-Am Review

First of all, Happy Mother's Day to me mum Joi Alfano. Without you, I don't know where I'd be right now... I'm guessing not alive, but who even knows how that works.

What a weekend! After a totally ridiculous drift packed Friday and Saturday at Formula D Road Atlanta, I was able to finish up with Round 1 of Streetwise Drift's Pro Am Series at Gresham Motorsports Park.

So Friday afternoon after I finished yet another smothering day at work, I drove my BroDozer to Road Atlanta to catch up on some Formula D Qualifying. Of course, I was rooting for my homie and drift coach Mr. Chris Ward, who is an Atlanta local who's made it to the big leagues and showing signs of MAJOR potential on the pro circuit. I mean, look at how well his cheeks fit into that helmet.

He placed 25th and was set to run against Matt Fields who was also killing it all weekend. Unfortunately Chris didn't advance, but he put one hell of a show, and he did exceptionally well for running his new 2jz car for the first time in competition. And of course, as usual, yes he did have mechanical issues (I think he enjoys the challenge sometimes haha).

Saturday involved a lot of yelling and lots of monster truck action, and wound up wearing me out! Congrats to Daigo Saito for proving that he's still got it, and that he won't be making this year's championship any easier to obtain than last year's.

My Sunday started out with no sleep. As per usual on FD weekend, sleep is mostly optional anyways. I wound up passing out around 4am and overslept my alarm and my wake up text message from Mr. Johnny McDonald.

John McDonald is a fellow Streetwise Drift competitor who I became spotter for this event. Due to complications with my car, I wasn't able to compete. Therefore I spent my energy (what little I had anyways) by helping Johnny with dialing in his Ford 5.0 powered 240sx coupe.

Also in attendance is my buddy Alex Youe, introducing his new KG Made, LS powered s14. For not driving the car on a track yet, he absolutely ripped, and I am so proud of him for showing folks that Atlanta Drifting is where it's at!

So proud of both of these guys! They placed 14th and 15th respectively, and made it into the big show alongside other Atlanta fiends David Campo, Harrison Richie, Sean Morgan , Taylor Hull, and Ron Eworth!

Johnny made incredible progress throughout the day, and wound up nailing his qualifying run... we were trying to run a super high line all day and we were falling a little short due to power and rear suspension setup (GET COILOVERS JOHNNY!!!!!!!) so we had to mess with tire pressure to try and get the rear a little more slippery, except that we were losing speed as well! It was a clusterfust of complications, but Johnny's solid driving and dedication to throw down really put him in the right spots for qualifying.

Johnny lined up with 17 year Alec Holendell. Alec ran absolutely crazy, and Johnny ran into power issue while trying to run Alec's wayyyyyy aggressive line. He gave it his all, and we are all proud of him for putting himself out there and going for Gold! Now just get some new heads and a boss cam, make 100 more HP and start eating these Chevy motors for breakfast!

With all that's said and done, I was totally bummed not to drive this event, as I feel this track was perfect for my aggressive and reckless driving style, but I enjoyed lending a hand to another up and coming driver, and wish him all the best. Because next month at Round 2 in Orlando, he will be a target!

Look for the Orange machine to be launched very soon. Long block gets finished tomorrow, and its gonna be gnarllyyyyyyyyy...................

Finished the Engine Bay and Interior Paint!

Now its time to pony up and get back on track. We have a tight deadline and its imperative we get some testing time before Round 1!

In other good news: Vengeance Racing decided they wanted to ship my parts finally and I should have them here Friday! Which means this weekend I will be finishing the long block for the 6.0!

Here is a reminder to myself to go ahead and order the transmission and headers tomorrow, because I keep forgetting. And be sure to cross your fingers and hope they still have them in stock!!!

Now I'm going to bed to take care of the sleeping portion of my day so that I can earn more money to blow on this rolling money pit.

Deep Vengeance is the Daughter of Deep Silence. - Vittorio Alfieri

Ok, so the nerdy quote grabbed your attention huh? What does that have to with drifting you might ask.

It doesn't.

But if I wanted to be clever, I could use it as a segway to introduce you to Vengeance Racing. Local to my home state of Georgia, Vengeance Racing has earned their name through their highly praised custom camshafts for the LSX application.

I had the privilege to talk to them about what products would be best for a high revving torque machine, and we came to an understanding that money must be spent for reliability. (Learned that the hard way with  my SR.)

So, looks like the 6.0 is getting a nice mix of parts, including:

Vengeance Racing VRX5 Camshaft 236/238 .602/.605 113+2
Hardened Pushrods
Dual Titanium Springs/Retainers
LS7 Lifters
Katech Timing Chain (Good enough for LeMans, good enough for me!)
ARP Headstuds and Crank Bolt
SLP Underdrive pulley

and the Comp Cams Trunion Rocker upgrade which removes the needle bearings in the lightweight stock rockers and replaces them with a more durable and fail-safe option.

Needless to say, I'm pretty pumped and so is my wallet.

Thanks to Ron and Kevin for answering all of my dumb questions, and getting me on the right path to ripping the track!

And to close, here are some pictures of things I could buy with the money I just spent:

Off to a Great Start!

Well thanks everyone for showing your support! Since the site has been live we have gotten over 500 views! And I promise they aren't all just me ;)

I'm really excited about turning this racing program into a solid gig this year. Bare with me as I get used to this format and am able to get my bearings straight.

In fact, I already have people wanting to host my web site on their host to draw in traffic... pretty sweet! Then I will be able to bring you even more content and increase the quality of the site ten fold.

As always, here is a sweet pic to keep your attention span going: This is me driving Chris Ward's Formula D car at the KMS Nationals back in November. I placed 6th after a controversial call, but that's drifting!

Gifts from Achilles Radial!

Thanks to Achilles Radial for sending me these!! Do you recognize them?

Yeah, thats exactly right. They are THE end plates to the monster wing that is attached to Daigo Saito's SC430 drift car. Daigo Saito is officially the D1GP/Formula D/FD Asia world champion of all that is Drift.

Now I don't have 1300hp but I'm pretty sure this will be a nice addition to my Big Country Labs Wing. Anyhoo. Robbie Nishida signed it alongside Daigo himself.

If I do say so myself, I'm pretty stoked and a little fanboyish. Can't wait to rock these badboys!

FYI: The damage on the plates is from when he took out the wall at Las Vegas last year. BOSS!!!!!!

And always don't forget to checkout the Achilles Radial Facebook!

Welcome to Alfano Racing's official website!

Hey everyone! Thanks for checking in. This will be the main source for all of your 2013 Alfano Racing news!   As you can see, my Instagram and Twitter feeds are attached, so this can and will be your one stop shop! I'm going to be updating regularly about my 2013 build and what kind of progress we are making. Big news is coming so stay tuned!!!!

I'm a man of very little serious words. Mostly a lot of fluff, so in order to take myself more serious I'm mostly just going to post pictures. Most of which, sadly, will probably be from Instagram because lets face it... I'M LAZY.

-J.J.

Here is a sweet picture of my race machine from 2012 to keep things interesting, as usual, the rear bumper is dislodging itself from the vehicle.
